Arctic Adventures

 
We are closing on twenty four years of "wedded bliss".  Our adventures have taken us from the Caribbean to Alaska and lots of interesting places in-between, Vermont, the Florida Keys, British Columbia, the Outer Banks, the Everglades, the Tetons, Yellowstone, Colorado, Alaska, and finally Arctic  Alaska. 
I could never stand to "sit still".  That was what was expected in the sixties...graduate from high school, become a nurse or teacher, remain in Ohio or close enough  to family for a few hours travel....

Having trod down "the road less traveled by.".....I would not have changed a single thing.  Not from the hours a day of swimming in the Caribbean following the undersea activity of the once unspoiled reefs, Squid schools that follow you, lobster grilled on an un-named beach, crossing not only the color but culture barriers...the people you meet on the edge...

Now, in our home in the Arctic, we bring everyone that shares the multiple experiences of world travel, to our tiny 
space, filled with adventure, love for our guests, and total dedication to the spirit of hospitality.

Ok....and for all of you  pestering me for a pic of your favorite guy...here he is, the love of my life and the wings beneath my wings....

We are definitely going to have to expand the bulletin board by next winter. New guests are on the way from the Netherlands, California, Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, Virginia and other states. Their expectations are high, thanks to the great testimonials some of you posted, so we had better be on our toes.

I've been testing new recipies and trying to bring more fresh fruits and vegetables into the menu. I now have a thing for Asian Pears. Also negotiating with different vendors for a good halibut and salmon source.
Our electricity rate keeps going up, so turning on the freezer this summer is not an option, but I'll have to get the fish in by early fall.

Folks floating in on the river today. It will be interesting to see what they saw out there.

The last two days was the End of the Month syndrome. I tackle the mound of paperwork that needs to be dealt with....mostly bills. Then there are the spread sheets where I try to account for every transaction in the past thirty days....it seems dead quiet, but when you look at the books, it tells another story.

For some reason, I can't find the tool bar to upload a picture. I am banging on the Insert Image tag at the top, but nothing is happening.
Well, my split pea and lentil soup is boiling over, so I will have to try to figure out the picture thing later.

Starting tomorrow it will be back to business as usual, so I'll take this last  quiet  moment to share a few more thoughts and memories.
Another clear blue skied day.  I vowed after walking The Wurm this morning and allowing a thousand tiny mosquitoes to feast on my exposed parts, that the next time out the door was in "the net".  As ridiculous as it looks, a mosquito net over the head is a chance at sanity if you are out poking around in the yard.  Wurm takes his own sweet time selecting just the perfect spot to relieve himself of his daily bowel movement, however, on the other hand, must mark every bush, twig and clump of grass with a tiny squirt to ensure any wayward dog knows just who's yard this is.
This time consuming routine, means that my fingers and ears are swollen from bites.  Repellant just doesn't seem to cut it with these little guys.  They love deet, I guess.

Jeanne arrived early this morning, about 7:15, on a mission to get the tire on her four wheeler fixed.  At one point, she and Paul from DOT were jumping up and down on it while Bernard attacked it with a large crowbar.  Where is the camera when you need it?

We fill up with guests and park crew in the morning and stay full for quite awhile, so I will be back in the kitchen for real, cooking for guests.
